Purpose [top]
      As the capstone of NAF’s staff development activities, the annual Institute features several days of intensive peer training, industry presentations, and networking opportunities, with the goal of ensuring that Academy programs are successful, focused on the improvement of public education, and dedicated toward helping young people of all backgrounds continue their education as a step toward building careers.

      This year's Institute theme will be TEAMWORKs, reflecting NAF's belief that a strong Academy team is at the heart of any successful program.

The 2003 Institute for Staff Development will be held Thursday, July 10th through Saturday, July 12th, 2003, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona.

Several Pre-Institute activities will take place on Wednesday, July 9th, including Directors' Day and NAF's Newcomers Orientation.

 
Attendance Costs [top]
     

Attendance costs vary according to your registration status.  However, there are some costs that apply to all attendees including:
Registration fee: $425 per attendee (NAF does offer a one-day registration fee of $125 for business partners ONLY)
Meal costs: NAF provides breakfast and breaks Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as well as a banquet dinner on Thursday night. All other meal costs are the responsibility of the attendee.
Ground transportation: Transtyle Car Service -- $50 per person from airport to hotel (reservations required: 480-948-6131) or SuperShuttle -- $28.50 per person from airport to hotel (no reservations required/regular airport pick-ups)
Parking: If you plan to drive, there is complimentary self-parking, a daily parking rate of $5.00, or a $15 valet daily parking rate. 

NAF Non-sponsored Attendees and Individual Registrants are also responsible for:
Air Travel costs -- please plan to fly into the Phoenix International Airport
Hotel Accommodations -- NAF has negotiated a special rate of $129/night at the host hotel and overflow properties

NAF Sponsored Attendees:
NAF covers the cost of airfare and
50% of the cost of hotel accommodations (Wednesday through Saturday nights only)

Hotel Reservation Information [top]
     

The JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa will serve as the host hotel for NAF's 2003 Institute for Staff Development. The hotel is extending a special rate of $129/night to all NAF attendees (plus 12.5% sales tax). To make reservations please call Marriott Reservations at 800-835-6206 or call the hotel directly at 480-293-5000. You must mention that you will be attending NAF's 2003 Institute to receive this special rate.

The host hotel will not be able to accommodate all NAF Institute attendees. The Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountain will serve as the overflow hotel for NAF's 2003 Institute. Daily shuttle service will be provided between the two properties.  The McDowell Mountain Marriott is extending a special rate of $109/night to all NAF attendees (plus 12.5% sales tax). To make reservations please call Marriott Reservations at 800-288-6127 or call the hotel directly at 480-502-3836.  You must mention that you will be attending NAF's 2003 Institute to receive this special rate.

For sponsored attendees -- Pre-registration deadline (registered by Academy director)

For non-sponsored and individual attendees -- Registration deadline; participants wishing to register after this date must do so on-site an pay a higher registration fee of $525
For sponsored attendees -- deadline for hotel reservations and airline ticketing; NAF will not pay air or hotel costs for reservations made after this date
For all attendees -- deadline for hotel reservations at special rate of $129/night
For all attendees -- deadline for all cancellations and substitutions; NAF will not issue refunds after this date

Promenade Travel Service, a local tour operator and advisory board member company has put together several tours available to NAF Insitute participants for Sunday, July 13th. Tours include full day trips to: Montezuma's Castle & Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and Verde Rail and half day trips to a Diamondbacks Baseball Game and Rockin' Ranch BBQ.

      If you plan to see the sights in and around Phoenix, you may want to consider renting a car. NAF has secured a special Meeting Services Rate through Hertz for all Institute 2003 participants. For rate and reservations information, please download the attached PDF file.
