If you are considering online education to begin, supplement or finish your higher education degree then you are joining a legion of thousands of other equally dedicated internet classmates. One of the major benefits of online learning is that you are required to be an active participant. You won’t be able to sit in the back of the class and go unnoticed. Your opinions and questions will matter. In fact, they are part of your grade.
A typical online education course will have you following the same kind of syllabus as you would in a traditional classroom. You’ll know right at the start what is expected of you, your deadlines for assignments and how to participate. The only way your instructor will know you’re grasping the concepts they are teaching is to see how you respond in your classroom forum. Each online class will have its own distinct bulletin board where you’ll be required to post. These posts will include ongoing discussions among your classmates and answers to queries posed by the instructor.
The online forum is also a perfect place for debate. While you certainly shouldn’t be getting into any flame wars, there is nothing wrong with engaging your fellow students in a back and forth about the subject matter at hand. In many ways, the online environment is better than the classroom simply because everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts. If you tried that in the real world, classes would last for hours and you might not learn anything except who is the loudest talker!
